Hello, there. Thanks for stopping by.

I’m Jacque Jo Bland, and I’m the founder of Sparkwood Strategic Communications. I started Sparkwood because I love helping people talk through their ideas, put those ideas on paper (do people still use paper?), and work with them to make those ideas happen.

I’m a recovering journalist, but I’ve never lost my ability to find or tell a good story. I’ve also never lost my natural sense of curiosity. I spent time working on copy desks both large and small, edited a business and legal weekly newspaper in our state capital, and navigated the world of arts and entertainment (and some political gossip here and there) in Washington, D.C. When it was time to make career change, I returned home to West Virginia to enter the world of corporate communications in the natural gas industry.

Almost three years later, I’m here.

In my spare time, I’m a compulsive social media researcher. I could lose hours researching trends, topics, dos and don’ts, and YouTube videos of lost commercials of the 1980s. I also am a huge sports fan, and it’s not uncommon to find me wandering around Athens, Ohio, or Morgantown, W.Va., on any given day there’s a football or basketball game. I’m an amateur photographer, a reader, a terrible baker, a pretty decent cook, and someone who works to get a little better at something every day.
